Juniel knew she wanted to be a singer, like BoA, ever since she was a young girl. She actually boasts quite a history with many of the top kpop stars today during her training period. She signed on with her first agency FNC Entertainment on the same day that CNBLUE's Jung Yong-hwa was signed on. She always trained with Wonder Girls' Yubin,
After School's UEE, and G.na as they were all supposed to debut as the group Five Girls.

She picked up the guitar as a junior high school student and wrote her first song, "Boy", at the tender age of 16. This song was actually included on her debut album in Japan. She debuted in Japan before Korea under the original name of Junie. She later changed it to
Juniel; a play off her name Joon-hee plus the letter "l" for "love".

She won first place in the 2010 Japanese audition program Nijiiro Super Nova, eventually becoming dubbed the next Utada Hikaru (who was one of the most popular Japanese singers at the time). After being active as a singer for the next year or so in Japan, she finally took
her act home.

Juniel appeared on the "Kpop Captivating The World-- Just Rock CNBLUE" in April of 2012. She released her first pre-release track "Fool" which featured Jung Yong-hwa. Her title song was "illa illa", with a music video featuring CNBLUE's Kang Min-hyuk and actress Park Ha-sun.
Many of the songs on her debut mini album were self-composed. Her album peaked at number 18 on the major Gaon Album Chart in Korea in June of 2012. She was even dubbed the next IU-- quite the nickname!
